You’ll be able to gain a broad-based knowledge and skills needed to enter the sport, recreation and exercise industries and have fun doing it.

 

Our sports and recreation course will give you the tools you need to build your life and leadership skills while you learn more about sport and fitness. 

There will be plenty of practical opportunities for you to enhance your technical skills and learn outside the classroom. You’ll get to develop exercise programmes, learn about personal fitness and growth.  

You’ll learn the essentials of planning a successful sport event, basic sport nutrition, coaching techniques and grow your understanding of health and wellness for athletes in an exciting and interactive learning approach.

During this course you will:

  • Develop exercise programmes 

  • Learn about personal fitness and development 

  • Get the essentials on how to plan a successful sporting event 

  • Understand basic exercise prescription and injury management 

  • Learn practical coaching skills for team sports 

  • Explore sport nutrition, health and wellness for athletes 

  • Develop leadership skills with sport umpiring and competition management.

  • Applicants must hold a NZQCF level 2 qualification or equivalent.

  • Applicants with English as a second language must demonstrate sufficiency in English language at interview.

  • All applicants will be informed of the nature of the practical components in the programme as they must be able to participate in range of suitable sport, health, exercise, and recreation activities.
