Andreas Kasoulides: Regional Manager - Central

Andreas joined NZIS in 2002 as an enthusiastic IT graduate with an opportunity to administer the Institute's computer network and corporate website. Passionate about what NZIS represents, Andreas enjoyed teaching students about tech while leading projects related to IT, marketing & recruitment and business support.

Andreas now maintains responsibility for the Wellington campus to ensure the central region is providing exciting opportunities for students geared up for a career in health, sport, recreation and exercise.

Specialist Areas: Teaching, education management, business administration, information technology, sport management

Qualifications:
  • BCA (eCommerce & Multimedia, Information Systems)
  • Diploma in Adult Education and Training (completing)

Catherine Redfearn – Head of Faculty

Catherine Joined NZIS in 2008 after teaching Sport and Recreation in the UK for the previous 8 years. She has a passion for working with young people and encouraging them to achieve their goals using sport as a hook for their learning.

Catherine has a wealth of experience in Foundation Learning and getting the best out of young learners. She leads a team of dedicated tutors who are committed to helping our students reach their full potential.

Specialist Areas: Recreation management

Ben Montague – Personal Training Course Leader

Ben is a recent addition to the NZIS team, having spent the last 15 years in the Fitness Industry, notably as a Group Exercise Instructor, Self Employed Personal Trainer and most recently as a Gym Manager.

Ben is a keen sportsman having played competitively in many codes including a stint playing international rugby league for Malta.

Specialist Areas: Sports Specific Training, Group Exercise/Boxing Training, Exercise Prescription, Crossfit

  • Diploma in Exercise Science

Lawrence Newman – Diploma Sports Management & Exercise Prescription Course Leader

Lawrence joins The New Zealand Institute of Sport this year, bringing with him a huge amount of experience across the sporting sector.

He has taught Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition and Massage Therapy at other institutions previously but also worked as an Analytical Chemist, Gym Manager, Paramedic and Sports Massage Therapist (including selection for The Commonwealth Games Team).

He is an active sportsman currently playing Soccer, Running and Cycling. Lawrence has also completed two Ironman Events and several Marathons. Away from Sport Lawrence has an interest in Music and Drums.

Specialist Areas: Sports Rehabilitation, Training Processes, Sports Massage

Daniel Farani – Course Leader Diploma Sports Management & Exercise Prescription

Daniel is the total package practical in nature, disciplined in training and philosophy, and a qualified and experienced educator having taught in New Zealand and England as well as an Alumni of NZIS.  Daniel played professional rugby in England, Italy, South Africa and France beginning 2000 to 2014 and played international rugby for Manu Samoa in 15’s, 10’s and 7’s. Daniel also represented the New Zealand 7’s and was part of the New Zealand Rugby Academy for three years. His last four year in France, saw him expand his skill sets to coaching professionally from 2010 to 2014.

Specialist Areas: Sports Coaching and physical performance, mentoring, communications, facilitation, creating high performing teams

Peter Zajac – Course Leader Advanced Diploma in Exercise Prescription

Peter began working with NZIS on the tutorial team in early 2015, and now teaches our Diploma in Advance Exercise Prescription. Peter recently moved back to New Zealand after completing a Master’s degree in Strength & Conditioning at Northumbria University (UK) and also holds an Honours degree in Exercise Science (University of Sunderland, UK & University de Nantes, France).

Peter’s international skills transfer well into his career. He has globally participated in 1-on-1 & group personal training, as well as athlete preparation starting in the UK. Peter is well qualified and enthusiastic to share his experiences from training around the globe. He has played ice hockey for teams in both the UK and France.

Danielle Baker – Foundation Tutor

Danielle joined NZIS in 2016 after teaching in the UK for over 15 years. Danielle’s passion is working with young people and helping them develop and achieve their goals. Danielle has a wealth of experience in Sports Coaching and has worked for the English Football Association as a Coach Educator. She has also played for her region back in the UK.

Brenda Collins – Foundation Tutor

Brenda joins The New Zealand Institute of Sport with a background in Secondary School Teaching and Community Health. She has a passion for sport and will work closely with the 20+ Adults course. Brenda has played international rugby for Samoa Manusina 15’s and 7s, and New Zealand Women’s Rugby League.

Nelie Napadao – Site Administrator

Nelie came from Baguio City, Philippines and a graduate of Saint Louis University. She taught Physical Education and Health in the same University for almost 20 years prior to her movement to New Zealand in 2010. As a qualified teacher in New Zealand, she taught Exercise Science, Exercise Prescription and Group Exercise at NZIS from 2010 to 2012, she then decided to try a new career path and finished her Certificate in Relaxation Massage before she moved  to the New Zealand College of Massage in Wellington and stayed as the Site Administrator for four years. As a choreographer and a dancer, she currently leads a Fitness Group called Get Fit as part of her church ministry in Johnsonville, Wellington.

Specialist areas: Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Ballroom Dance, Philippine Folk Dances, Group Exercise.

  • Certificate in Relaxation Massage- Level 4
  • Bachelor in Secondary Education- Level 7
  • Master of Arts in Physical Education- Level 7
