Les Mills

NZIS and Les Mills have a long standing relationship.

The New Zealand Institute of Sport (NZIS) have a strong and  proud association with Les Mills, whereby NZIS students spend a lot of time at Les Mills, which is a fantastic way for them to get work experience and be exposed to the Fitness Industry. Students partake in Group Fitness Classes as well as utilising the gym facilities. They also do practicums in boxing and Crossfit. Students have the chance to make relationships with staff at Les Mills, and over the years, a number of NZIS Alumni have ended up working at Les Mills as Gym Instructors, Personal Trainers and Group Fitness Instructors.

Below is a quote from Brett Turnidge of Les Mills Wellington, talking about the Personal Trainer work experience week that our NZIS Personal Trainer students can take part in, as part of their certificate.

“The Personal Trainer work experience week at Les Mills is a fantastic opportunity for NZIS students to showcase the skills and knowledge they have learned during their studies. The week is extremely practical with numerous opportunities to deliver Personal Training sessions as well as experiencing what it is like to be a client – all under the watchful eye of the Les Mills Personal Training Manager.

There is also a strong emphasis on learning the ‘business’ side of Personal Training, with practical tips and techniques on how to run a successful Personal Training business. This week will help bridge the gap between education and what it’s like in the ‘real world’ working in the fitness industry.

Several students that have completed the Personal Trainer work experience week have impressed so much that they have started work at Les Mills as soon as they graduate.”
