Tutorial Staff – Wellington
Natu Taufale – Assistant Supervisory Tutor, NZIS Basketball Academy Director
Natu contributes to the coaching modules at NZIS. Natu’s ability in the coaching of Basketball saw the NZIS U23 side take out the National title in 2005. He has won numerous NBL titles as a player as well as coaching with great success at the highest level in NZ Basketball as a BBNZ High Performance Coach and Coach of the Saints NBL team. He has also won many regional and national coaching awards over his career.

Ian Cridland – Pre-Police Proficiency Course Leader
Ian is a senior tutor currently teaching his 9th year at NZIS after teaching sport, recreation and leisure in the UK for the previous 17 years. A very experienced and popular tutor, Ian’s greatest area of expertise is working with youth and encouraging students to develop personal skills in areas outside of their comfort zone.
Specialist Areas: Literacy, Numeracy, Law and Business subjects.

Catherine Redfearn – Foundation Studies Supervisory Tutor
Catherine came to NZIS after teaching sport and recreation management in the UK for the previous eight years. Catherine has also managed a sports facility in the UK for three years. She is an avid sportsperson with a particular interest in soccer and has both played and coached for various clubs in the UK and now plays for Brooklyn Northern United.

Bethan Collings – Diploma in Sport Management and Exercise Prescription Course Leader
Bethan joined the NZIS Auckland campus in 2007 following 4 years working as a Fitness Consultant and Personal Trainer and 5 years teaching in tertiary education in Cardiff, South Wales as a Lecturer in Sport. She also developed their Junior Netball Academy in the role of Academy Director. After a year lecturing in Neath Port Talbot College, Wales in 2008, Bethan returned to New Zealand to work in the NZIS Wellington site.
Bethan has an interest in all aspects of sport specific training and hopes to pursue her Masters in Sport and Exercise Science whilst in New Zealand.
She has worked and travelled extensively through the Jordan, Israel, Egypt, United States, Australia, Fiji, Samoa, Tahiti, Africa, South America, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia over the last 11 years.
Her main passions are netball, rugby, waterskiing, wakeboarding and art.

Marc Bookless – Diploma in Sport Management and Exercise Prescription Course Leader
Marc came to NZIS with a strong background in the education sector. He has worked in a number of schools around New Zealand and has a passion for teaching, sport coaching and outdoor education. Marc has an enthusiasm for health and fitness and is an avid sportsman with a particular interest in rugby and multi sport. He has a Degree in Sport and Exercise, a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and is a fully registered New Zealand teacher.

Toa Madar – Sport Studies Course Leader
Toa joined NZIS in 2010 following his role acting as Active Families Coordinator for Sport Wellington, where he worked with families and individuals to guide planning for appropriate lifelong physical activity for wellness. He has a strong background in Exercise Prescription, both in terms of education and experience conducting personal training and group fitness sessions.
Toa has a demonstrated record of sporting excellence, having won two Grand Finals for the South Pacific Raiders at the Premier level in rugby. He played rugby league for the Otago and NZ University Rugby League teams while studying in Dunedin, and has played for the North City Vikings Rugby League and Tawa Rugby teams since returning to the Wellington region.

Nellie Paus – Personal Training Course Leader, Student Services Support
Nelie came to work in New Zealand after twenty years university teaching experience in the Philippines in the areas of Physical Education, Health, Fitness and Wellness. Her passions include teaching Exercise Physiology, exploring choreography for aerobic workouts – specifically Dance Aerobics, Latin Aerobics and Cardio kickboxing Aerobics. Nellie has been a personal trainer for basic and intermediate Pilates and Yoga for the past 10 years.

Telu Vaeau – Student Support Advisor
Telu joined NZIS in 2011 after Tutoring cultural groups at St Patrick’s College for 10 years, Hastings Boys High School, Victoria University and the NZIS (China trip and graduation 2010). He has tutored music at Hastings Boys High School and studied at The NZ School of Music in Wellington. He enjoys rugby, boxing and Samoan Cricket.
Andreas Kasoulides – IT Tutor
Andreas has been involved with NZIS for over eight years as a Technical Consultant and ICT Facilitator. His drive, passion and teaching techniques have seen countless successes with students from all ages & backgrounds across all NZIS programmes.

Administrative Staff – Wellington
Rebecca Toomaga – Executive Assistant
Rebecca has been working at NZIS in various administration roles since she finished studying at the Institute in 1999. She has gained extensive event management experience while working at NZIS and was one of the lead organisers for Pasifically Wellington in 2007. She is the Captain of the NZIS Volleyball team that won the Club Nationals Championship in 2007, and was Vice Captain of the NZ National Women’s team that attended the World Championships Qualifying Round 2 in Kazakhstan in June 2009.

Grace Fiso – Finance / Operations
Grace came to NZIS with a strong banking and customer service background – she worked for the ANZ Bank for 20 years, firstly in an operations role, before moving into retail banking. Her interests include volleyball and other sport in general, and she is a strong member within the Pacific Island community. She is currently studying HR and Management to build on her considerable experience in the Industry.
Miki Kitora – Administrator
Miki has been an integral part of the NZIS administration team since she finished her studies with the Institute in 2004. Originally from Japan, Miki has fully embraced life in New Zealand and her passion for volleyball. She was a member of the NZIS Women’s Volleyball team that became National Club Champions in 2007 and she was named MVP for the tournament. She is also the NZ Women’s Volleyball Team Trainer and Masseuse.

Lesa Laga – Administrative Assistant
After studying at NZIS for two years and graduating with the Diploma in Sport Management, Lesa spent nine years working in administration with the New Zealand Treasury. She joined the NZIS Head Office administration team in 2011.
Lesa is also member of the NZIS volleyball team that became national club champions in 2007 and took 2nd in 2009. She has been a member of the Senior National Women’s volleyball team since 2000.
