John Fiso – Chief Executive Officer
The importance of providing valuable educational opportunities and sport performance opportunities was a motivating force in the development of NZIS. CEO John Fiso has led the organisation starting with 18 students based in Porirua in its first year to a multi site provider in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. From a strong Phys Ed teaching background, having represented New Zealand in Volleyball and formerly a World University Team representative in Rugby League, Mr. Fiso has experienced life as a professional athlete and understands the importance of career options for young athletes.
Mr. Fiso has held board memberships and directorships both at the National and regional sport organisation level and currently sits on a number of private sector boards, translating to a wealth of managerial and executive experience. Mr. Fiso’s vision is to encourage levels of excellence in students and athletes at NZIS and provide them with a number of opportunities to succeed. The “added value” approach to education and experiences such as the international sports tours and overseas employment opportunities have also been a driving force.

Shelley Addison – Quality Assurance Director
Shelley has been involved in education and high performance sport for many years and is the current National Women’s Volleyball coach. She was a member of and captained the NZ Women’s Volleyball team for over a decade. She was a team leader in the NZ Olympic team to Atlanta in 1996, in charge of the NZ Beach Volleyball team.
As a former Physical Education teacher and a sport administrator in a leading Regional Sports Trust she has a wide range of experience in sport management and currently heads the Volleyball New Zealand High Performance programme at NZIS

Taulalo Fiso – Strategic Director
Taulalo came on board with NZIS as a Director following twenty years work experience in the public sector. He spent several years working as National Pacific Manager for ACC following key Pacific posts and with the Ministry of Education and Tertiary Education Commission. Taulalo brings extensive experience working in the education sector and keen understanding of stakeholder issues within the Pacific Island community.
Taulalo enjoys films, Touch rugby, attending community events and activities and spending time with his family.

James Turner – Director of Business Development
James joined NZIS as Director of Business Development in July 2011, after working in a variety of senior roles in the UK and New Zealand public sector. His previous role prior to joining NZIS was at the Tertiary Education Commission where he was responsible for funding of the private and community education sector across New Zealand. His various roles in the UK civil service included a number of key education and employment jobs, including most recently being responsible for the funding and performance of the Learning and Skills Council, a $15 billion organisation responsible for the planning and funding of non-University tertiary education across England.
James’ interests include family (married to Tracey with two daughters, Amy and Emily), triathlon (he is an internationally-ranked age group triathlete, having represented New Zealand at World Championship level on a number of occasions, and is on the Board of Triathlon New Zealand), and travel.

Tony Rogers – National Academic Manager – Wellington Supervisory Tutor
Tony was a Primary school teacher for twenty years prior to becoming a full time National Sports Administrator for seven years with Athletics New Zealand as Competitions Manager and latterly as the High Performance Manager. He has also been involved in Track coaching, selection and management.
Tony was a middle distance athlete who represented New Zealand at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games. He was a finalist in the 1500m at the Los Angeles Olympics.
Specialist Areas: Coaching – Track & Field, and Cross-country, event planning, athlete planning.

Clayton Wiki – Finance Manager
Clayton joined NZIS in 2009, bringing 15 years accounting work experience in private and public sectors to the Institute. He has worked in diverse fields including construction, insurance, travel wholesale and as a Contractor to the Inland Revenue Department.
Specialst areas: Clayton’s interests are rugby, rugby league, soccer, reading, water sports and enjoying time with his family.
