What are the Term start and finish dates for 2017?

When do courses commence for 2017?

All one year full-time courses at NZIS start in early February and finish in early December. For exact dates and times please call your local campus for more information.

Can I study by correspondence / distance learning? or part time?

All our courses are full time and held onsite at our various campuses. This enables our students the full attention and guidance from our Tutorial staff. Practical gym sessions, coaching clinics, fitness testing and assessments are built into the curriculum which is why correspondent study is not an option at present

Are your qualifications nationally and internationally recognised?

NZIS is an NZQA (New Zealand Qualification Authority) registered and accredited provider of tertiary qualifications. All our programs, certificates, diplomas and advanced diplomas are NZQA recognised.

How many hours are in an average day at NZIS?

Courses and programmes run from Monday to Friday and on average commence at 9.00am and finish at 3.30pm. (This may differ between sites) Coaching sessions, Fitness testing, Event Management and Sports Tours may/can be scheduled outside of these times.

Do you supply accommodation for students?

NZIS can assist in finding students safe, centrally located accommodation to make their stay at NZIS enjoyable, cost effective and hassle free.

NZIS has pastoral guidance and support personnel at all sites and can assist students with their accommodation needs; either through managed hostels, student flats or apartments.

When is the cut-off date for applications and how long does the application process take?

Applications for the 2013 academic year are currently being accepted for consideration. All applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview (either in person or over the telephone) with a member of our Academic Team. The total application process on average, from start to finish can be between 10 – 14 days.

Does NZIS offer financial assistance?

NZIS is a NZQA registered and accredited provider of tertiary qualifications. This means, all our full time courses are eligible for student loans and allowances. You can apply directly online www.studylink.govt.nz.

Are there scholarships available?

Each year NZIS offers a selected number of part or full tuition fee scholarships across our three sites in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Scholarships are awarded on the following criteria:

  • Academic Achievement – Exceptional Academic Record
  • Sporting Achievement – Representative level in one or more sports
  • Club/Community Contribution – Commitment to Club and/or community events

How do I apply for a Scholarship?

To apply for scholarships, individuals are required to send a detailed Curriculum Vitae, Covering Letter and Two written references of support (from coaches, teachers or members of the community) along with the application of study.

How long is the Personal Trainer Course?

The NZIS Certificate in Personal Training is designed to fast track candidates into the personal training industry. This course concentrates on sport science and exercise prescription as well as 30 hours of work place experience. Our first intake commences in February and the second intake is scheduled for July. What are the Youth Guarantee / Zero Fees Programmes?

You may be eligible for our Zero fees youth Guarantee Programme (Please note as the course is fully funded, it is not eligible for student loans and allowances).

To qualify students must meet the following criteria:

  • 16 to 19 years of age at the start of course (if the candidate is 15 years, an exemption letter from Ministry of Education is required)
  • A commitment to completing the full year of study
  • A passion for sport and motivation for learning

You may also qualify for assistance for your travel needs. This can be discussed in more detail during your interview as a number of factors will need to be considered.
